Taking the Skunk family back to its Afghani roots, Super Skunk adds flavour, weight and potency to the always-reliable Skunk #1. Despite being released three years after Shiva Skunk, Super Skunk qualifies as the first serious project to breed a next-level cannabis hybrid from the groundbreaking SK#1. Experimental Afghan-Skunk hybrids are featured in the very first Seed Bank catalogues and the breeding project aimed at finding the perfect Afghani genotype to match Skunk #1 goes back further still.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Throughout the Super Skunk project, Sensi breeders aimed to create a strain whose commercial potential, potency and hybrid vigour had never been seen before. Over the years, a large number of Afghani cultivars were crossed with both males and females of the true-breeding Skunk #1. Many wonderful plants were produced, though never with exactly the blend of qualities sought by the project. The achievements in cannabis hybridisation made in the late Eighties meant that the standards for professional ganja were steadily moving upwards which, naturally, raised the bar for what was expected from the Super Skunk program.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It was the expansion of the Sensi Seed Bank gene library at the end of that decade - in particular, the range of fresh Afghanica cultivars which became available to Sensi breeders &ndash; that made the current version of our Skunk-Afghani hybrid possible. In 1990, Super Skunk in its final form was released to great acclaim, picking up the mostly-Indica Cannabis Cup straight away.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Super Skunk&rsquo;s performance remains unchanged to this day, always living up to her super vigorous, super potent and super fragrant reputation. The Cinderella Story - as told by MrSoul (last updated for seedfinder.eu at the 15th of March 2017):&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In 1996, I discovered a few seeds in a bud of Jack Herer I bought @ &amp;quot;Sensi Smile&amp;quot; coffeeshop in Amsterdam while there to buy seeds. I didn't expect much when I grew them, but one of those seeds from the JH bud produced a very special female that I call &amp;quot;Princess&amp;quot;.  She had devastatingly psychoactive resin and stayed short, compact and had a heavenly aroma of tropical fruit and rotten meat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The scent given off by Princess, was unusual in the late 90's - not at all skunky - she's sweet and fruity. Someone passing by the flowering room MIGHT not recognize the scent as pot and mistake it for tropical flowers. When you rub the resin you can definitely smell it. The high of Princess is also more &amp;quot;psychedelic&amp;quot; or &amp;quot;trippy&amp;quot; compared to the strains like Skunk #1 that were popular. I always advised friends to smoke a LITTLE, wait 10 minutes, then think about whether or not you need any more... it&rsquo;s easy to over-indulge and become paranoid.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We can assume Princess' mother was a Jack Herer not only because Sensi Smile printed it on the package, but also because I've smoked verified Jack Herer since then. So Princess' father is a totally unidentified mystery plant - his pollen somehow got in Sensi's growroom. Princess had two sisters join her from that same bud.  I called them Genius &amp;amp; Caf&eacute; Girl. There were also 3 males from those seeds which regrettably, I didn&rsquo;t preserve. Genius became the mother of the Brothers Grimm Apollo lines, while Caf&eacute; Girl gave us Rosetta Stone, and Princess of course, created Cinderella 99. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I wanted to create a strain that would allow me to share Princess with others, but I wanted this incredible &amp;quot;Holy Grail&amp;quot; of indoor clones available to the world in SEED form. I decided to use a technique called &amp;quot;cubing&amp;quot; (because there are 3 backcrosses involved) to create the seeds. Here&rsquo;s how cubing works:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Pollinate a flowering clone of the chosen female with the pollen of a related male, preferably her father or a brother - to preserve any female traits that are linked to the male side of the family. An unrelated male won't have the Y-chromosome of the chosen female's family &amp;amp; therefore any Y-linked traits of the family will always be missing in the seed line. The resulting seeds contain 1/2 the original female's genes and 1/2 those of the male.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Grow the above seeds &amp;amp; flower them. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Pollinate a flowering clone of the chosen female with pollen from a male selected from the above group. These seeds contain 1/2 the chosen female's genes plus 1/4 more from the male being 1/2 her genetics too. I call this first back-cross generation .75 to capture the idea that it's 3/4 of the original female's genetics.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. Grow the above seeds &amp;amp; flower them.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. Pollinate a flowering clone of the chosen female, using a selected male from the above generation. These seeds contain 7/8 the original genes (1/2+3/8), so this second back-cross is the .88 generation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. Grow the above seeds &amp;amp; flower them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;7. Pollinate a flowering clone of the original female with pollen from a selected male off the above generation. These seeds contain 15/16 the original genes (1/2+7/16), in other words, so we&rsquo;ll call this third back-cross the &amp;quot;.94&amp;quot; generation.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Theoretically, this will be a stable, true-breeding seed line from which all females are replicas of the original. Cinderella 99 seeds are created from a male P94 crossed to Princess, which is technically P97.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the process of &amp;quot;cubing&amp;quot; Princess I wanted to add a little strength to her branches because the buds were always so heavy at harvest that the branches flopped over. To do that, I crossed a male from a heavy-yielding, dense, resinous strain, Sensi&rsquo;s Shiva Skunk. Crossing that male to Princess created the &amp;quot;P.50&amp;quot; generation (using the shorthand notation I developed to indicate the fraction of Princess genes in the cross).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Each generation is the result of crossing a male from the previous generation to Princess herself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here's a blow-by-blow description of the generations as they tested in my garden:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;P.50 = Heavy, single-cola type plants with mellow high (too much influence from the Shiva Skunk) Sweet fruity scent/flavor. Unstable in most traits - for example, 10 days difference in fastest/slowest maturation period in a group of 20 seedlings.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;P.75 = Princess floral cluster and bud structure, scent/flavor turned more &amp;quot;tropical&amp;quot; like pineapple. The stability was becoming better - two major phenotypes; short &amp;amp; dense (potent too) or tall/HUGE (less potent).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;P.88 = Renamed Cinderella 88 when first released on the market. It grows fast and produces excellent yields of FROSTY buds in 7 weeks! Generally uniform seedlings with minor differences in floral formation and some height variance, but the smoke is quite consistent from all plants - Dense, heavy nuggets of fruity scented &amp;amp; flavored (like wild berries) and covered in resin glands, the dried buds have distinctly ORANGE pistils.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And finally, the male P.94 cross to the Princess clone creates Cinderella 99. The name &amp;quot;Cinderella&amp;quot; was chosen because of the parallels between this story and the well-known fairy tale in which Cinderella becomes a Princess despite her humble beginning.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Each generation exhibited a MAJOR jump in potency: P.50 was rather mellow, P.75 has a well-balanced body/mind high with a citrus flavor, Cinderella 88 is cerebral and paralyzing with a tropical fruit flavor, and Cinderella 99 is of course renowned for the fruity flavor and speedy, scary high inherited from Princess.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This project clearly became a huge success. The strain has been embraced by the cannabis growing community. The smokers gave rave reviews &amp;amp; the breeders elevated Cinderella 99 to cult status. It's extremely gratifying to me, MrSoul that so many hybrids were created by breeders who recognized C99 as a stable parental stock from which to build or tweak another variety. It's a big compliment to me as the breeder, and a huge testament to the enduring quality of Cinderella 99.

Early in my growing experience, it did not take long to realize the quality of the genetics is going to decide the quality of the outcome. After spending thousands of dollars on seeds, it was obvious

Tangie is renowned for its loud orange citrus flavor but can sometimes lack density. Thin Mint is a tasty, potent legend with rock-hard dense buds caked in frost. We searched through many Tangies to find a special male that reeked of orange peels as a mate for the Thin Mint and we found it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There was an article in the March 2016 High Times about the tastiest strains that tested the highest in terpenes. Terpenes in those tests ranged from about 2% to the highest ever tested by High Times at 4.1% (Durban Poison). Tangerine Cookies lab tests showed that our sample of Tangerine Cookies had 5.5% terpenes and 28.87% THC.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The resulting Tangerine Cookies was everything we had hope for and more. The cross between the two reintroduced hybrid vigor to bring a surprisingly high yield from a cross of two mediocre yielders. Every bud from the top cola to the bottom buds were rock hard and dripped with resin. To say the buds were stunning is an understatement.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The smell is mouth-watering and LOUD. Fresh and dried buds will fill a room with the smell of orange cream soda. The taste matches the smell exactly and lingers on the taste buds.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The effect is energizing, happy and extremely potent.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I can&rsquo;t say enough good things about this strain. &lt;p&gt;Few cannabis strains can claim to have attained the fame of Northern Lights. A knockout descendant from ancient landrace strains, Northern Lights is known for its potency and great effects, as well as providing the genetic building blocks for countless other hybrids. Below, we'll recount a generally accepted version of how the strain came to be, but remember that a lot of this info is based on hearsay and legend.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;The first Northern Lights cannabis plants were supposedly grown in the 1970s by a mysterious breeder known only as The Indian on an island near Seattle, Washington. Legend has it that The Indian grew a variety of Northern Lights plants, all of which had 100% Afghan genetics. According to cannabis folklore, these plants had dark-green colours, a robust and short stature, as well as a tight bud structure&mdash;something which wasn't so common at the time, when a lot of the weed in the US descended from the sativa plants being grown in Mexico, Colombia, and other nearby regions.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;In 1985, the renowned breeder and seed entrepreneur Neville Schoenmakers apparently discovered Northern Lights while travelling in the US. Rumor has it that Neville brought live clones of different Northern Lights phenos back to The Netherlands, where he hybridized and stabilized the strain over the coming years. Neville is said to have eventually crossed the strain with a Thai landrace, creating a hybrid with a mix of sativa and indica genes but retaining many of the iconic traits of its Afghani ancestors. Out of the resulting seeds, Neville selected Northern Lights as the standout phenotype, though some sources suggest that Northern Lights #1 and #2 were also very good. Over the coming years, breeders used Northern Lights to create a plethora of iconic hybrids, including:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&bull; Super Silver Haze&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&bull; Shiva Skunk&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&bull; Lowryder&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&bull; Jack Herer&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&bull; Neville's Haze&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;h3&gt;Genetic Lineage of Northern Lights&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;While its origin story is hazy at best, there's a general consensus regarding the genetic lineage of Northern Lights; the strain seems to be a direct descendant of both Afghani and Thai landrace cannabis varieties. Below we'll take a look at some of the unique characteristics of both Thai and Afghani landrace weed.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Note that the term Landrace refers to cannabis varieties that have grown naturally in a particular region for many generations without having been crossed with strains from other parts of the world. As a result of growing in a particular region for prolonged periods and being genetically isolated from other cannabis strains, landrace varieties develop particular traits as they adapt to their local environment.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Afghan weed (also known simply as Afghani), as its name suggests, refers to landrace strains growing in Afghanistan, particularly in rural and highland regions of the country, as well as near Mazar-I-Sharif (one of the country's largest cities). These varieties are typically pure indicas with tell-tale indica traits, including dark green foliage and broad-fingered leaves, a short, stocky stature, bushy growth, and a short flowering time. Afghani strains are also known to be resilient and produce dense flowers with a tendency to go purple when grown in the right conditions. Besides being used to create Northern Lights, Afghani genetics can also be found in strains such as Ak47, Amnesia Haze, Trainwreck, and many more.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Thai weed, on the other hand, refers to landrace plants originating from, you guessed it, Thailand. In contrast to Afghani landraces, Thai plants are typically sativas and have long adapted to Thailand's warm, humid conditions and long summers. Generally speaking, these are tall plants with long, reaching branches and stems, bright green foliage, thin-fingered leaves, and a long flowering time. These strains are renowned for their unique citric and fruit aromas, as well as their potent and uplifting effects. Like Afghani, Thai weed has been used by a plethora of breeders from all over the globe to produce a wide variety of hybrids, including Juicy Fruit, Haze, Oregon Purple Thai (AKA Purple Thai), and Blueberry, among many others.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Northern Lights is an indica-dominant variety with physical traits that are very reminiscent of its Afghani parent. However, the strain's effects couple the more relaxing effects of indica-dominant strains like Afghani with the uplifting mental effects typical of Thai landraces.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;h3&gt;Physical Characteristics of Northern Lights&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Northern Lights is known to have notable indica traits. In general, these plants are short and stocky, with moderate internodal spacing, and broad dark-green leaves. Once in bloom, the strain is said to stretch moderately and produce dense, pine-shaped flowers. In general, Northern Lights buds are a deep forest green riddled with bright yellow and orange pistils, as well as a thick coating of sticky resin. Like other old-school strains, Northern Lights tends to produce lighter flowers that lack the tight clusters of almost-bursting calyxes seen in modern cannabis hybrids. Nonetheless, Northern Lights buds smell great and make for a delicious smoke.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;h3&gt;Properties/Effects of Northern Lights&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Like a lot of old-school cannabis strains, Northern Lights typically isn't as loaded with THC as more modern cannabis varieties. Normally, this strain packs around 15&ndash;18% THC, though some batches may be a little stronger. Nonetheless, don't let those numbers fool you. Despite having less THC than more modern cannabis strains, Northern Lights is still known for producing a potent, long-lasting stone. Northern Lights plants are known to be vigorous growers and resilient to pests, pathogens, as well as cold temperatures/unfavorable climates. Once in bloom, Northern Lights plants develop tight, small indica flowers typically shaped like pine trees. They tend to maintain their deep green color, though some varieties of Northern Lights may develop purple hues (depending on how they are grown).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Unlike a lot of old-school cannabis strains, Northern Lights has been fairly well-preserved, and a lot of seedbanks continue to offer this strain in seed form.
